Mary C. Thorne and Family
This is a portrait of Mary C. Thorne of Selma, Clark County, Ohio, with her family. The woman standing is a mulatto fugitive slave that the Thorne family adopted. The image was collected by Ohio State University professor Wilbur H. Siebert (1866-1961). Siebert began researching the Underground Railroad in the 1890s as a way to interest his students in history.
The Milky Way spreads across the night sky over Mormon Row, a historic settlement in Grand Teton National Park near Jackson, Wyo. The light in the distance is the city of Driggs, Idaho, on the west side of the Teton Mountain Range.
I love churches. That doesn’t mean that I love organized religion, but I find churches to be so beautiful and peaceful and humbling.

She is beautiful beyond words and we are happy that she chose us to watch her grow over the coming years.”
