One of the most popular posts on this blog is the one that includes direct quotes from Carol Channing “admitting” to her blackness. Actually, “part negro” is the way they put it back then. Sign of the times, I’m sure. What hasn’t changed is that people by and large are ignorant of Channing’s “blackness”. I think maybe Carol’s a little ignorant about it herself after viewing this Wendy Williams interview in which Channing denies “it”, yet ultimately says she hopes “it’s” true. Oh, the conflict. I dug around for a little more info. I came up with this gem. Total rumor, but…
Carol Channing and Diana Ross were secretly COUSINS
Carol Channing and Diana Ross were secretly COUSINS
My elderly neighbor, who lived in LA since childhood and spent decades working in entertainment has told me some scrazy stories, but the craziest is that Carol Channing and Diana Ross were actually cousins, and that Carol’s machinations were a big part of Diana’s ascension to lead status in the Supremes.

Carol Channing had a black grandfather so it could be true.

Channing’s from San Francisco and San Francisco lead the way with mixed marriages. They were all the same race marriages, just some white people marrying people not so white.

On the “Diana Ross and The Supremes Greatest Hits” album, there is a liner note from Carol Channing commenting on her love for The Supremes.
Well, a 23andMe genetic test will remove all doubt. lol
doesn’t seem like ms. channing is interested in finding out…just comfortable saying “she hopes it’s true.” i don’t mean to be hard on her. i think she’s a great example of heart in the right place, but mind stuck entrenched in outdated dogma. spirit prob doesn’t give a poo 🙂
I’m not sure about this…although I do see a slight resemblance in their features in the two photos above, I don’t think they are related at all. Carol has admitted to having Black ancestry but I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say that she and Diana Ross are cousins. On which side of the family? Diana was born to Fred and Ernestine Ross. She grew up in the projects of Detroit, Michigan. I believe this is purely rumor…unless Carol or Diana verify that they are indeed related, it should be taken with a grain of salt.
Hi Cinnamondiva!! Thank you so much for all of the thoughtful comments and for taking the time to explore this blog!! I really appreciate it and love your sharing. I didn’t mean to imply that this is fact. Just thought it interesting and within the realm of possibility 🙂
Nah, Tiff…no worries! 😉 I love your blog. I’ve been following it for quite some time now. You know us mixed chicks have to stick together, lol.
I know you didn’t mean it as factual. If it does turn out to be true, that would definitely be interesting.
BTW, please keep up the good work! I can’t wait for you to write some more new posts and share some videos. Are you familiar with Erica McKinney of the blog Biraciality?
i thought Carol had some ‘jewish’ in her..for some reason..i would have never thought she was black, although the picture with her grandparents, the mom looks like a ‘black jew’ a little
