Wow, this is timely and perfectly scary– they look like multi-colored Halloween Scary masks! Now just think if that illustration had had only the darkest and whitest masks; would have made that textbook even more boring than it probably was to the class of ’62. We LOVE all the different shades, both on the page, and in the world!! Maybe we should be grateful to its authors. This book may have done more FOR the cause of Interracial relationships than against it. We say, “Bring on ALL the many colors we can make together.” Thanks for posting this.

Hey– I own this book, and it has this picture, but my version is from 1945. Ridiculous no matter what year it came out, of course.
