Hi. Not sure what to write or how to start these things, but I am looking forward to seeing how it shapes up.  It was 65 degrees in NYC yesterday. Today, I woke up at 6:30 to hail and 38 degree temp. Now it is snowing. Like really snowing. Weird. And unfortunate because (well for many reasons, but) I have to take my dog, Indy, to the groomer this morning and by the time we get home he’ll probably be dirty from the slush on the ground. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t dream of making Indy walk home in the weather. Mostly becauseindy Indy wouldn’t dream of doing it. He’ll be in the stroller til we get to our block, but then he’ll have to get out to tend to some “business.”  I have such anxiety about these grooming days.  Today we’re going to try a new place.  They seem nice and professional.  But then they always do at first.  It’s funny that some of the more blatantly racially charged experiences I’ve had in NYC have been at a frickin’ dog groomer.  Actually, it’s not funny.  I would be anxious anyway, because that’s just how I operate, but knowing that my dog will probably be treated better if my white male roommate takes him to the groomer kinda sends me over the edge.  And here I was wondering what on earth I’d write this morning and doubting that it would have anything to do with race.  I am looking forward to writing about whatever on here tho and not being so consumed with black and white. Seems like I just can’t get away from it tho. For now.

  1. love the picture of Indy , he is a handsome little fella. 🙂 it rarely snows here in GA. the weather is starting to get alittle warmer. which is wierd i miss snow tho. I hope the day at the groomers went well for u and little Indy. i actually have to wash my cats and dogs today. which is going to be alot of work. pray for me. lol but anyways love the blog. i thought it was interesting and had alittle humor. looking forward to more. 🙂

  2. hey chea! i am praying for you and the little ones. i hear cats are especially difficult to bathe. good luck!! glad you are home with them, tho. i’m sure they are too! oh yeah- it stopped snowing five minutes after i posted that 🙂

  3. hey tiff. yeah cats are known to be difficult to bathe. i bathed my dogs first, but afterwards i couldnt find the cats. they hid from me. lol it’s a common thing. i guess they saw me washing the dogs so they decided to hide. lol imma bathe them tomorrow mourning tho. how was the day at the groomers?

  10. It’s a tough time to be Arab-American in our country because of the whole implied terrorism link. Since you’re from Michigan you probably know that many Arab-Americans are Catholic, Chaldeans, so when I hear friends tell me about the prejudice they face, it saddens me.

  11. i read your posts and your you tube videos. what is the big deal on black and white. obama is biracial but he doesnt look white he is and african american i have a black mother with a biracial grandmother and a biracial father and afro curly hair. so am i mulatto or should i say i am black. i just want more clarification of this mulatto thing.
